FIGMENT is a FREE celebration of creative culture held on Governors Island in New York Harbor from June 27-29, 2008. Expect a dizzying array of fabulous art and activities, spanning a range of imaginative possibilities from ambitious sculptures to exquisite performance to wild costuming to edgy arts and crafts and beyond. See the About FIGMENT page to learn more about our vision and principles.
The best way to experience FIGMENT is to participate! FIGMENT is an open forum for your creativity. Bring an art project, build a sculpture, lead an activity, run a game, stage a performance. Show up in costume. See the Participate page to learn more.
LEAVE NO TRACE
Governors Island is a historic public place. Please help keep it beautiful by cleaning up after yourself and not littering. The entire FIGMENT staff is comprised of volunteers, including the clean up crew. If you are interested in joining the Leave No Trace team or in volunteering in some other way, click here.
NO SELLING, SOLICITING OR ADVERTISING
FIGMENT is a non-profit event planned and staffed by a team of volunteers. One of its goal is to create a social and creative experience unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. This way, people can focus on simply sharing art and meeting one another in a friendly way.
FIGMENT does not sell T-shirts, buttons, or tickets. Please do not bring anything to sell to the event. Selling goods or services or soliciting donations is not permitted.
BRING EVERYTHING YOU NEED
Remember to bring anything you might need for the day: food, water, sunglasses, sunscreen, medications, etc. There are no stores to purchase them from on Governors Island, aside from a few snack carts. Bicycles are encouraged and there is a bike path on the island. It does have medical facilities. Finally, please note that alcohol is prohibited.
