FIGMENT’s City of Dreams – Interactive Sculpture Garden & Mini Golf Course All Summer Long
Come visit the City of Dreams Interactive Sculpture Garden and Mini Golf Course, which will be open on Governors Island through mid-October. The Interactive Sculpture Garden features 16 large-scale pieces, each designed to invite you to engage and interact. Write your truth on the Temple of True, position the mirrors to achieve One Minute of Parallax, or relax on the infinity-symbol-based Rhythm & Rest. Full details of all sculptures can be found here: http://figmentnyc.org/2009/figment-2009/city-of-dreams-season-long-interactive-sculpture/.
The Mini Golf Course features 18 holes, each designed by an emerging artist, architect, or arts collective. In the City of Dreams, you won’t find a traffic light or a windmill, but can try your aim on an electric guitar, venus flytrap, or (for the less coordinated among us) have instant success with “Hole-in-1.” Read about each hole here: http://figmentnyc.org/2009/figment-2009/city-of-dreams-minigolf-course/.
We’re thrilled by the comments we’ve received from visitors, as well as all the media interest in the project, including the recent articles in New York Magazine (http://nymag.com/travel/features/57750/,http://nymag.com/travel/features/57752/). We do appreciate your comments and stories, which we welcome you to write in via http://figmentnyc.org/2009/contact-us/.
The City of Dreams is located behind Liggett Hall on Governors Island. To get there, you can look at a map for directions or go to the first stop on either of the Governors Island trams (City of Dreams is actually located right where the trams pick you up). The easiest way to get there by foot is to go to the right after you’ve come up from the ferry landing, then turn left at Castle Williams. When the path brings you to Colonel’s Row, there will be are a long three-story building on your left, Liggett Hall. Look for the archway in the center of the building, go through it, and enter the City of Dreams!
FIGMENT’s City of Dreams is open when Governors Island is open to the public, generally Friday 10a-5p and Saturday and Sunday from 10a-7p, through October 11. For ferry schedules, look here: http://www.govisland.com/Visit_the_Island/directions.asp.
While the City of Dreams is completely free, we do appreciate your donations. All donations go toward maintence of the sculptures and minigolf holes, as well as to next year’s FIGMENT event. You can make a donation at the box under the pink shade in the City of Dreams, or on our website: http://figmentnyc.org/donate.
