FIGMENT Co-Presents the New Island Festival!

28 August 2009 No Comment

The New Island Festival

400 years ago, the Dutch arrived on Governors Island. From September 10-20, THEY’RE BACK, for two weeks of mind-blowing theater, music, and art from The Netherlands. All of the island will be the stage for more than 150 artists who will utilize the waterfront promenade, historic homes, barracks, and open green spaces for site-specific performances. And, in a first for Governors Island, the island will be open to the public until midnight for the eight days of the festival! Visit http://newislandfestival.com for the full program and more info.

FIGMENT is very pleased to be a co-presenter of the festival. As usual, the island will be free to visit, and some of the performances will be free. Others will require a modest admission fee. If you’re interested in coming out for the day and checking out a number of performances, it’s best to buy a passport. Through FIGMENT, you can get a $35 one-day passport for $28, through this link: https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/682495/prm/NIFCOPRES

FIGMENT at the New Island Festival

In addition to the site-specific performances of the New Island Festival, FIGMENT will be activating our City of Dreams Sculpture Garden and Mini-Golf Course for both weekends (until 11pm!) with music, light art, projections, and some informal performance. We’re finalizing our plans now, and will post full information including a DJ line-up soon. Follow this link for the latest on FIGMENT at the New Island Festival: http://figmentnyc.org/newisland.

We need your help!

To make all of this happen, we need volunteers! If you’re interested in helping with the New Island Festival, the Archeological Dig (a very special installation that opens during the festival), or at FIGMENT’s City of Dreams, either for our special activities for the New Island Festival or our season-long minigolf course, please click here: https://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?AP=1742783610

See you on the island… again!
