THE NEW ISLAND FESTIVAL
created by Dutch artists

400 years ago, the Dutch arrived on Governors Island. Through September 20, they’re back, bringing mind-blowing theater, music, and art from The Netherlands. The entire island is the stage for site-specific performances. Visit http://newislandfestival.com for the full program and more info.

FIGMENT is pleased to be a co-presenter of the festival. While some of the performances are free, others will require a modest admission fee. If you’re interested in checking out a number of performances in one day, it’s best to buy a passport. Through FIGMENT, you can get a $35 one-day passport for $28 here: https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/682495/prm/NIFCOPRES

THE ARCHEOLOGICAL DIG

a fascinating archaeological site uncovered last winter during reconstruction on Governors Island.

Join a team of archaeologists and explore the remnants of one of the oldest settlements in New York City. Dating back nearly four centuries, this small village was the only civilian community on the military island. Its few remaining inhabitants were forced to evacuate in the 1950s and the town had since been forgotten, until demolition workers accidentally stumbled onto the site. http://www.newislandfestival.com/event/862/archeological-dig

PIONEERS OF CHANGE
a festival of Dutch design, fashion, and architecture

Also on the island, in eleven houses in Nolan Park, is Pioneers of Change, a festival of Dutch design, fashion and architecture on New York’s Governors Island to celebrate 400 years of Dutch-American friendship. Visitors can listen and debate, watch and participate, relax and think, eat and drink, play their music, be inspired, connect and, simply, enjoy. http://www.pioneersofchange.com/

GOVERNORS ISLAND ART FAIR

presented by 4Heads

The Governors Island Art Fair presented by the 4heads Collective, is a different type of art fair – an event organized entirely by artists. Believing that artists know how their work looks best, the 4heads Collective provides space to independent artists and galleries who may then exhibit their work as they see fit. http://www.4heads.org
