FIGMENT 2009 has been an enormous success. Over 13,000 people came out to Governors Island this past weekend to experience something truly unique – a community coming together so that its members could expand their definition of art and their perception of their own  creativity, connect with each other, and demonstrate what the arts in New York can become.
With 400 art projects, a volunteer staff of 200 people, and over 13,000 participants, it is truly a group effort to put together

FIGMENT is looking for outdoor interactive sculpture projects to be part of our City of Dreams sculpture park on Governors Island for the 2009 season. We intend to open this sculpture park at FIGMENT, on June 12, and for it to be open, when the island is open, until Mid-October. Artists should submit a proposal for their sculptures, whether for a season-long installation or just for the FIGMENT weekend, through our submission system (http://figmentnyc.org/2009/get-involved/submit-a-project/sculptureinstallation-waiver/).

We wanted to take a moment out of busy FIGMENT planning to let you know that we have confirmation that Governors Island will be open for summer 2009 — which means that FIGMENT will stay right at home.  

Funding for Governors Island has traditionally been split between New York City and State.  The City’s support for the Island was voiced earlier in this budget season.  Now, after some budgetary concerns, Governor Paterson announced on April 1st that the state’s “commitment to Governors Island is clear [and that] the Governors Island …
